The Collective originally evolved as an off-shoot of Sanford Housing Co-operative. Our aim is to bring professional-quality theatre to a wider audience than is typically attracted by the mainstream London theatres.
Our first few performances were with a cast and crew largely made up of the members of the Co-operative, but today we are open to anybody that is willing to commit themselves to a production - over half of our roster of 40+ participants have come to us from outside of the Co-operative (often through attending a performance and being inspired to get involved).
PRODUCTIONS
We have staged several public performances, as well as commissioned works in professional theatre spaces, such as The Scoop on London's South Bank, including:Classic plays: Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest" and William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", "King Lear" and "The Taming of The Shrew".
Modern plays: Terry Pratchett's "Wyrd Sisters".
Subversively political plays: Dario Fo's "Can't Pay, Won't Pay", Umberto Ionescu's "Rhinoceros", Aristophanes' "Lysistrata" and a modern re-working of Reginald Rose's "Twelve Angry Men".
The Sanford Collective runs almost entirely on grace & good will, so any donations that will help to continue our work will be greatly appreciated.
DO book us. You'll love it. We'll put money on it. In fact we do, every production. Our own hard-earned cash. For you. What more do you want?
