Sanford is the oldest purpose-built housing co-operative in London. Founded in 1973, it has been transformed from a wasteland into a cosy, green and welcoming environment. Our street, Sanford Walk, is home to 125 tenants, living in 14 houses and 6 flats.
My name is Declan Burley, (I did leave a message yesterday on your answering phone but I’m not the best at leaving messages!), so I thought I would leave an email instead.
I’m a student at Bournemouth University studying Television Production; I’m in my final year and its come to the time to produce my graduate project. I eat, sleep and breath documentary; there’s nothing I enjoy more than to make or watch docs. So it only makes sense to me to film a documentary for my last project before I set of into the really world.
I was searching the web after my original documentary idea about the art behind scarification fell to pieces, and after a manic freak out I jumped back on my researching horse, scrapped my plans and cleared my head for a new idea which was about people making a difference.
On Wednesday night after a few hours surfing the web, I came across a site called Digging & Dreams and from there I came across ‘The Street’ (Sanford co-op) and I was hooked by the Eco solutions that your community have achieved, in the middle of London.
I would love if you could spare me the time, if I could talk to someone more about the goings on at Sanford and whether or not your community would be interested in and willing to let me make a documentary about ‘The Street’. It would only be a short 12-15 minute documentary shot across four days (28th Feb - 3rd March). I understand if this is not something you’d be interested in but you never know if you don’t ask!
